Register Yourself and other you know to vote....

As the election time is nearing, one of the common question I have been asked "Do you have a voter ID". Most of the time you will get an answer is yes. but most of the crowd who have been working in Bangalore will say they do have voter id but not here but in their home town. Now its very important that you register yourself in the place where you live. but the question now is how do you register for voter id in your current place. you will find a lot of article to show how to get registered such as ichangemycity. but it just says the way to do it but never talk about the exactly how to get your name in voter list. This is an attempt to make some things clear on how exactly you can complete the process effectively.

Step 1: Where to start

There are two ways to start this process.
  • Manual: First one will be physical filling of the form and submitting manually.
  • Online: Fill your form online but submit the application manual.
Manual method also simple. one can get the application download here. Please download only Form 6. This form is used to apply for a voter id in your place and optional to cancel the older voterid in your previous constituency. I am not going into details what to fill since it is covered in lot of places.

Second manual way to do it is a little easier one is to visit some selected B1 centers. Just grab your relevant documents and photos and head there. They will fill it up for you and give back the print out of the generated application.

Step 2: Applying online...

Before we continue with Online way of doing things here are the prerequisites

For uploading:
1) Address Proof (scanned pdf less than 1 MB)
2) Age Proof(scanned pdf less than 1 MB)
3) Your photo (less than 50 KB)

Where you are located:
Know your constituency: one simple way to know your constituency is just look for the main road, cross road boards. you will see that below the name there will be ward no & constituency name. Also you can call the number given in the board(its painted green in the below photo) and get the location of the ward office.  Keep this info ready for later use.

Check the Constituency from this easy method

Online application can be filled up here. Here you register as new user and login into the account.

Just select form6 because other form types are for specific reason but does not always work. For new voters, change of address, in same constituency or from different constituency just apply form 6. Thats only thing that works.

Select Bangalore & select your constituency and continue.

Fill all the details and select from the drop down the post office and feed in the pincode and press save and continue.

If the system does not find duplicate you will land up in next page as follows

You can also specify the name of the previous constituency where your name was included and provide the VoterID of that constituency or select iv and continue.

Upload all the specifed pdfs and jpg and submit.

Congratulation you have completed one milestone.

Print out the acknowledgement form and keep it ready for the next step.

Step 3: Submission

As soon as you complete filling and pressing submit you will get a mail from eci.karnataka@nic.in as following

Dear SOMEONE,

The status of your application: In Process:- Application Received,

Please download PDF of your application, submit the office copy signed along with supporting
documents to the office of the ERO/AERO within 7 days to take up the verification process.

Thanks and Regards,

ERO Revenue Officer, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, 1st Floor, Chennnamanakere , Opp: SSM School, Thyagarajanagar, Bangalore-560028 Basavanagudi, Bangalore..

The last part is very important. it gives the location to submit the application directly in that office given in the address.

Second way is to mail the application to the mail address specified in printout of the acknowledgement. That method may not always work. (i have seen some people have got their names added without even submitting the copy of the acknowledgement and supporting documents)

third way is to drop in the documents in the nearest ward office specified in prerequisite.

So once you submit manually to the office they will give back the signed acknowledgement back for future reference.

Step 4: Ensuring the name in the list....

Now that application is submitted and now wait for few weeks and try to check the status. The good news arrives when the status of the application changes to the following
Now wait for next draft roll to be released in ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in.

Step 5: Voter ID Printout...

Once the draft roll is out check the voter id details in ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in. and take note of Part No. and Serial number.

take note of Part No./Sln No.
Now that you have these details head to the nearest Bangalore One center and enquire if they give printout of the voter id if not ask for the B1 center which does that. Give the details there and get your print of the voter id.
